Agriculture and Foods
Five years as an agricultural contractor right after college afforded me a wealth of learning opportunities in running a business, personnel challenges, meeting payroll and finding clients. I also experienced how not to manage people in this “school of hard knocks”, and how not to negotiate and how fear of failure and financial disaster can be a great motivator. The plants and animals were fun!
 
I spent a further two years as a pioneer in organic foods, working with partners to open organic food stores in Berlin, Braunschweig and Liverpool. I was 20 years too soon, but I loved the pace and interaction of the retail environment.
