How many times have you heard managers say some version of; "I never needed a pat on the back, specific directions on how to perform, an understanding of company strategy, a clear career path, job security, to be named employee of the month (or whatever) to motivate me. . . so neither should you!"
I bet that those managers were the ones who hired clones of themselves and or had high turnover and poor results. They would blame their staff, the marketplace or the customer for low performance.
